Okay, so I've failed to live up to the requirements of NaBloPoMo after only three days. But I think tonight merits an exception. I am drunk on a hybrid of JOY and HOPE and apple martini. I only had one of the latter, but even after, four glasses of water and over an hour of digestion, I can barely type straight. Or walk straight. Thank goodness the bar I chose was only three short blocks away! (Had intellectual policy discussion with random guy named Sebasitian. Don't know where I got the impression people that go to bars aren't the type of person I'd be interested in. I wasn't interested in this guy, buty his polictical savvy was nice. Yeah, that description made no sense. Se above, re: drunk on a single appletime. Am a total lightweiht, but OBAMA WOO!)

My god, people. We elected a BLACK MAN named BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA. We finally proved that anyone can be President, even a kid born to a single-parent household, raised by his grandparents. We showed that a campaign of hope can triumph over a campsign tailored to fearmongering and divisiveness.

\MICHELLE OBAMA is going to be out First Lady! She is opinionated and fiercely determined, and she will do great things of the office. Sasha and Malia are adorable and genuine, and I look toward to seeing what dog they choose. Biden is honest and has strong roots in the communities he grew up, the complete anyithesis of Chenes. And the SUPEREME COURT! My god, we don't have to worry about more Rebupican appointees stacking the court.

And I see how many spelling mistakes I'm making, but I'm too joyous and drunk off only ONE apple martini to care. Good grief, that was strong. I feel like I've had two or more. Hope I don't have an hangover tomorrow--boss is a Republican, and he frowns on political discussions in the office. (So naturally, we discuss plitics when he's not present.)

I feel like sitting here is making me ever nore drunk, even though my lisp have not toughted alcohol since McCain finished his speech, through that's probably me getting tired. I was up at 5:45 this morning, after all. And I know I'm making spelling mistakes, but I'm too amused to correct them. I'm going to go to sleep and dream of four--nay eight--years of an Obama administration. I'm so happy with the direction the country has chosen.

I finally contributed macros to ontd_political's Shenanigans Friday! I love Shenanigans Friday so much.

And woah. Just spotted McCain's Patronizing "Congratulatory" Message to Obama

"How perfect that your nomination would come on this historic day"? Here, McCain, I fixed it for you: "How perfect that your nomination would come on this historic day concerning a man who I once voted against honoring with a national holiday."

Also, the "achievement of our opponent" was "noticed" by 38.4 million people, nearly a fourth of US households--more than the opening ceremonies of the Olympics and the American Idol finals. It is believed to have set a TV record. I'd like to see you fill a stadium with eighty thousand-plus passionate supporters, or make the Democratic equivalent of Pat Buchanan gush so profusely over the content of a speech you wrote that he had to be forcibly interrupted for time constraints. "Unnoticed." Ha.

Oh, and next time you want to look sincere, hire a better acting coach. And a lighter that won't make you look like you're filming in a cave.

No love,
Priscilla

Check out this new John McCain ad. In this message approved by the Senator, the narrator claims, "Beautiful words cannot make our lives better."

I beg to differ.

"I love you."

Ironic that "Love" is the name of the spot.

Tonight, I'm taking a bus to D.C. for a spontaneous day trip! As tomorrow's weather looks ominous, I'm planning to take the MUSEUMS! route rather than the MONUMENTS! route. Fred has been gathering recommendations here. So far, the International Spy Museum is sounding the most appealing, but I am also drawn to the Mall's sheer concentration of awesome museums. I'll have to research more this afternoon.

To catch up on my blogging: Friday night, I went on a date that included food and an Improv Everywhere event. Alex and I were both excited about it, but the event ended up crashing and burning. The idea was cool, but it was raining, and the IE folks had difficulty coordinating everything, and we ended up standing out in the rain and wind with an inadequate umbrella on the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge for an hour and a half. My light jacket wasn't really up for the chore. And the umbrella broke from the wind ten minutes before we left, so we got soaked. When I got home and saw myself in the mirror, my skin was bloodless white. I looked like a consumptive waif. I had to sit in a hot bath for twenty minutes before I felt like a human again.

Yet shockingly, I had a great time. The dinner beforehand was excellent (Thai!), and conversation was fun. We're never short of fodder for discussion, and he's just the right amount of geeky that I feel neither like a hopeless dork nor somehow inadequate in my geekishness. And Saturday, Alex is going to cook dinner for me, so I call this major win. :D

Welcome to Things I Can't Believe I Haven't Blogged About!
  • My parents came to town this past weekend. A splendid time was had by all, and now my room finally looks like someone actually lives there! Huzzah!
  • Friday night, I took my parents and my aunt to see Curtains, which was all kinds of fun. Boo to the haters!
  • Sunday morning, we participated in this Obama event. T'was fun! We were all part of the first A. Some photos on the event's facebook site: Mah Daddy! And big panorama: I'm just to the left of center (hurr!), in a red sweater. The video should be up later today. I'll post it when it becomes available.
  • Got a ticket to Flight of the Conchords! Envy me!
  • The first Dresden Files comic came out Wednesday, and it's AWESOME. I could get a sense of how it would work earlier on, reading the script alongside looking at the images, but it's somehow a completely different experience to see it all put together. It's a really solid piece of work, and I'm so thrilled to be involved in the project! I can definitely see it drawing new fans in, and the existing fans will love it.
  • YAY. A mixup on Wednesday that had the potential to get very ugly was resolved yesterday with minimal drama and fuss. What a relief!

Stuff that is Great:

Today, Obama gave an absolutely extraordinary speech on the subject of race in America, and you need to hear it. Or read it. Or have it downloaded to your brain like in The Matrix. And you need to do it now.

And what's more? "This wasn't a speech by committee. Obama wrote the speech himself, working on it for two days and nights.... and showed it to only a few of his top advisers."

Without the merest whiff of my usual Obamania... This man needs to be our next President.

EEEEEEEEEEEE NEIL GAIMAIN IS COMING TO NEW YORK COMIC CON!!!!

This makes my choice to make a Delirium costume even more perfect.

And wow, what a perfect opportunity to squee about the current state of my wig! My success with the Maeve wig gave me great confidence, and I'm taking another leap in wig making ambition!

As Delirium looks different every time she appears in the Sandman series, I'm not worried about perfectly recreating a specific look, so long as I get the general vibe right. My main inspiration is this image. I loved the idea of having one side very short and one side long and curly! My short side will be longer than hers, as I have no desire to buzz my head, but it's the same general idea. Mine will be short, scruffy, and dyed in a rainbow of colors on one side, then long, curly, and a blend of bright red and dark cherry red with sporadic yellow accents on the other side. The fiber for the extensions hasn't arrived yet (it should have arrived yesterday, boo. Maybe today?), but I won't be able to actually sew the wefts I make into the wig until I finish the dye job anyway. The dye job will take several more sessions to complete, as I can only dye small amounts at a time to avoid the colors mixing and looking muddy and gross.

Anyway, pictures! Here's how it looked on me the day before yesterday, but did a LOT last night, and here's where we are now: side, front, and 3/4 view. The color is getting a bit too chunky for my taste towards the back--I prefer the more feathery look of the bangs. Fortunately, it'll be a really easy fix to add in some steaks of color to break them up. I looooooooooove this dye recipe!

I'm still working out what I want to do for the costume itself. The big, shapeless coat is a must, but I want the costume beneath it to be solid on its own, in case I get too hot at the con. Tattered fishnets are a must, but my Molly costume brought home that once I start the tear, I have no idea how to keep them from falling apart completely. With Molly, what started out as artistically ripped fishnets that morning ended the day as an unwearable, shredded mess. I'm sure there's something obvious I'm missing. Can anyone provide insight?

As far as shoes are concerned, I'm considering a few alternatives:
1) Nasty old boots,
2) Ridiculous sparkly gold shoes I saw in a thrift store that were actually in my size and I can't believe I didn't get them,
3) A nasty old boot on one foot and a sparkly gold shoe on the other provided the height difference wasn't noticable, or
4) Galoshes.

Think I could be comfortable walking around a con in galoshes all day? Or would my feet get sweaty and gross? I haven't worn galoshes since I was ikkle and wee. Anyway, I'm currently leaning towards #3. I'll have to go back to that thrift store and see if those ridiculous gold shoes are still there. I might also have to revisit that awesome $5 shoe place where I got my Maeve shoes. I'm amazed at how well those things have held up!

And that's all I have to say about that. Except...

Fans of Sandman series should probably put down their drinks at this point, as not to end up with a keyboard full of Dr. Pepper. Ganked from moony's LJ.

In totally unrelated news, signups for the Dresden Files ficathon close Monday. Don't forget!

SNL Weekend Update: Huckabee's Graceful Exit

SNL: Tina Fey On The Most Important Women's News Issue. Awesome, but it would be more appreciated I didn't of want to slap Hillary in the face right now. What are you DOING, Hillary? What happened to the woman we saw giving that wonderful final statement at the Texas debates? Remember how well that went over, and how all the pundits were asking why she didn't show that side of her personality more often? Sure, it was almost word-for-word taken from Edwards' concession speech, but I was willing to forgive. Who is this bitter, mocking creature you're turning into? I understand you may be frustrated, but your snarky tirades are not presidential. Sheesh.

And finally, another Fry and Laurie video for people that don't care about American politics (though it would actually make a delightful satire of the second Bush doctrine had it not been written in 1992): The Ass-Kickers Song.

Puck: Actually, if they do Candyland like a cartoon movie for kids, it might not be that bad. The other ones scare me.
Me: Yes. Though Monopoly, if done in a completely serious, reinvent-the-wheel-taking-the-basic-concept could be potentially interesting. In a "Codex Alera was based on Pokemon" kind of way.
Puck: Well, it worked for POTC.
Puck: ....and failed miserably for Haunted Mansion.
Puck: So there you go.
Me: Yup. And The Country Bears.
Puck: *fingers in ears* LA LA LA THAT DOESN'T EXIST
Me: I can imagine an evil, Machiavellian Monopoly man cackling with glee as he puts people though a sinister game that will make them filthy rich or render them absolutely destitute and possibly imprisoned.
Me: Like a TV game show with TEETH.
Puck: Oujia might work as a cheesy horror flick.
Puck: Otherwise it'll be ninety minutes back and forth of "You're moving it!" "No, I'm not!" "Stop moving it!" "I'm not!"
Me: XD
Me: ...Jumanji was lots of fun!
Puck: Yes!
Puck: Yes it was!
Puck: Also Clue!
Me: Yes!
Me: Good point
Puck: But Jumanji had Robin Williams. And Clue had Tim Curry.
Me: Yes. And PotC had Johnny Depp.
Me: Wilford Brimley for Monopoly Man, Y/Y?
Puck: But Haunted Mansion had Eddie Murphy AND Wallace Shawn and still was made of fail.
Puck: And Y
Me: I like my Monopoly idea. It's like "The Most Dangerous Game," except with finance.
Puck: So of course Hollywood will make it fail.
Me: Of course. XD

Chad linked me to this excellent Daily Kos article comparing the Senate records of Hillary and Obama. Long, but well worth the read! I Refuse to Buy into the Obama Hype (now a supporter). The author summarizes her article thusly:
I looked up Obama and looked up Clinton [on the Library of Congress Website]. I looked at the bills that they both authored and introduced. Anyone who has been around politics, and is honest, realizes that there are a lot of reasons why a Senator votes one way or another on bills or misses votes. However an examination of the bills that each of these Senators cared enough about to author and introduce revealed much to me: what they care about, what their priorities are, how they tackle problems. And the list of co-sponsors showed something about how they lead, inspire and work with others. Finally, looking at which bills actually passed is pretty indicative of how effective each would be at getting things done.
Or if you have no interest in American politics, you can check out this highly amusing Frye and Laurie sketch. Those that did read the above article are invited to view it as well.

Now that's what I call inspirational.

Senior McCain Adviser Refuses To Campaign Against Obama. Said McKinnon (the senior McCain advisor in question), "I would simply be uncomfortable being in a campaign that would be inevitably attacking Barack Obama. I think it would be uncomfortable for me, and I think it would be bad for the McCain campaign."

When is the last time a candidate has inspired that kind of emotion from members of an opposing political party, to say nothing of members of the senior staff of the opposing party's de-facto nominee?

This is one more reason why I support Barack Obama.

BOOYEAH! TRY TO DISENFRANCHISE THIS! My Texas driver's license satisfies your criterion of "Government-Issued Photo ID," silly poll worker. "New York" was never stipulated. I WIN!

This is the most ecstatic I've ever been about voting for a candidate. I had full-fledged Dean fever, but he was out of the running by the time Pennsylvania's primary came around. I was overjoyed at the prospect of voting Bush out of office, but I never felt the passion for Kerry that I did for Dean and as I do for Obama. And now, here we are. My ballot has been cast. I can't wait to see how the chips fall when the polls close tonight.

If you're registered in one of the twenty states holding primaries tomorrow (today? It's nearly 2am and I'm still at work...), take a moment to hear what Lawrence Lessig has to say about his perception of the difference between Obama and Hillary, and why he's supporting the former.

After that, unwind with a bit of political silliness: Is Obama a Mac and Clinton a PC? Ironic that John Hogman, who plays the PC in those ads, is both a Mac user and an Obama supporter. :D

Project Runway. So... do the judges even remember their prom? You don't want you look cute and young and 17, you want to look mature and elegant. Sweet Pea should have won! The only dresses I would have worn to prom were hers or Chris'. Victorya's = Fug. Well, it's cute, but it's also cheap-looking and unflattering. While it may be a decent choice for a mixer or party, it is NOT appropriate for a prom!

Also, I feel so terribly wicked for thinking this, but even though I loathe Christian and want to slap him in the face whenever I see him, I kind of want him to stay on the show for the time being (though leave well before Bryant Park). Yes, his clothes are often rather interesting--albeit TRAGICALLY 80s--but he makes such a lovely TARGET for the natural drama of competition, and we need someone to mock now that Elisa is gone.

P.S. HAHAHAHA a girl looking for a designer for her prom dress chose Chris' portfolio over Victorya's? OHSNAP!
